Established in 1994 on the initiative of Michel Journiac (a professor at Sorbonne University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne from 1972 to 1995), the exhibition space of the School of Arts (formerly UFR 04 in Plastic Arts and Art Sciences) became, after the artist’s death, the Michel Journiac Space, and ultimately the Michel Journiac Gallery in 2005.

Following the renovation of the Saint-Charles campus in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, three sites have housed the gallery’s history: the first, from 1994, in a reserve on the ground floor of the original building; the second in Fontenay-aux-Roses, where the UFR was relocated for a few years; and finally, the third, since 2005, in the newly renovated building of the Saint-Charles center as we know it today.
